Surviving The First Month

I used to feel intimidated in any new environment, especially ones I’ve never experienced before. That includes going to the office. But surprisingly, on my first day, I actually felt ready. Excited, kinda.

Day one: kick-off/onboarding time. We were all in one room, introducing ourselves, and then… singing the company song. Yes, we really had to sing the company song, complete with choreography 🙂. I memorized it on my way to the office, and I even played it on repeat with my earbuds. Overall, it was nice meeting everyone. Most of us are fresh graduates anyway.

We had training for about a week, and here’s what we covered so far:

  • The company code of conduct (well, of course)
  • The organizational structure
  • General knowledge about the banking industry
  • Introduction to internal and external applications from each group
  • Manual and automation testing

Time flies, and tanpa disadari, I developed a flow. Here are a few things I’ve gotten used to:

  • I wake up early now! And it feels great. Improving my sleep schedule has been on my 2025 wishlist, and I’m happy to say I’m doing better — sleeping around 9 and having dinner around 7 🥳
  • I’ve gotten used to commuting with public transportation, which means leaving two hours early. (Will write about this soon, banyak rentnya 🙂)
  • Coffee has officially entered my daily routine. I used to get stomach aches whenever I drank it, but now I grab lattes or matcha regularly. Not great for my acne or my finances — haha — but here we are.

Believe it or not, it’s not always sunshine and rainbows. One day, my buddy asked, “Nis, did you ever take a SQL course in uni?” That was my oh-sh*t moment. I realized I had to start learning SQL — the hard way. That was a turning point for me to be more proactive about learning. And yes, I learned it the hard way, guys. Please, teach yourself basic SQL 😭😭. But it’s okay — I keep reminding myself this is an opportunity to grow.

Looking ahead, I hope to find better opportunities after this. I still want to move abroad and aim for something bigger. #kaburajadulu because, let’s be real, in this situation 🙂.

Lately, I’ve had You’re Gonna Go Far on repeat, manifesting that reality for myself ⭐️. And if you’re reading this while chasing something too — big or too-small — I hope you get to go far in your own way. We’re all figuring things out, and I hope your path leads you to what you’re dreaming of.

Thank you for reading, cheers!
